Having grown up around ponies, Marina’s love for horses is all thanks to her childhood pony, Jester. Living up to his name, this naughty ex circus pony with his short tail and feisty temperament was the perfect Pony Club candidate with a flair for the speed and agility of mounted games.

With a move back to the countryside in later life came the opportunity for Marina to indulge her love for horses once again, made easier with the gift of beloved Irish Sports Horse, Jack, from her husband, Ben.

Both Marina’s children, Ludo and Iona, have inherited their obsession for the four-legged from their mother. With her own competition interests on hold, weekends are currently spent focusing on the children’s equestrian pursuits. For Ludo, that means a fun ride, Pony Club events or showjumping. For Iona, it’s the thrill of an eventing competition or team chase.

Behind the fun of the sport is an important life lesson which Marina takes every opportunity to point out to her kids: the importance of being gracious in defeat and the first responsibility being always to your pony.
